The mission of The Genealogy Squad Facebook group is to provide a positive space for the sharing of appropriate and reliable methods and resources to assist genealogists at all levels. We focus on answering questions and solving problems while demonstrating best practices in all aspects of genealogical research.

The administrators are George G. Morgan of The Genealogy Guys Podcast, Cyndi Ingle who created and maintains more than 337,000 links at Cyndi's List, and Blaine T. Bettinger, Ph.D., JD, the world's leading lecturer on DNA and principle of DNA Central. (Questions relating to the use of DNA testing are better suited for our sibling group, Genetic Genealogy Tips & Techniques at https://www.facebook.com/groups/geneticgenealogytipsandtechniques.) We have two fantastic moderators working with the team at the moment too! They are Mia Bennett of England and Samantha John of Australia. They are experts in their areas and abroad too!

Membership in the group, which launched on 6 May 2019, is currently approaching 27,000. The members, administrators, and moderators answer your questions or they point you to excellent resources. TGS is the friendliest and most helpful Facebook group there is to help you with your genealogical questions.

Upcoming Content in Genealogy Guys Learn

Genealogy Guys Learn, our new subscription education site is a great success! We offer written courses and video tutorials for all levels of family historians and genealogists. We launched the site at https://genealogyguyslearn.com/ on 1 October 2019 and the response has been great.

Our first five written, self-study courses are:

These include DNA topics, GEDmatch, British civil registration and parish records research, Swedish research, methodologies, alternative record types, successful research and cemetery excursions, your ancestor's FAN Club, crowdsourcing, effective library research, tutorials for the use id Vivid-Pix RESTORE software, and a wealth of other topics that will make you a better researcher and investigator.  

In addition, we have developed a great Resources area at the site that contains links to Our Books, and a growing collection of Printed Materials that we reference in our courses and videos and that we highly recommend because we personally use them. These include books, quick sheets, and magazines that you may want to purchase for your own library or access at your local library. We offer links to valuable Products and Services that we also personally use and recommend. And we also provide a collection of Useful Links that we reference in our training materials.

Drew Smith and George G. Morgan are internationally recognized genealogy experts, authors, researchers, and host of The Genealogy Guys Podcast since September 2005 and the Genealogy Connection podcast since 2016. They also maintain The Genealogy Guys Blog at Drew also is the Genealogy Librarian at the University of South Florida Library and is involved in several high profile Florida-based genealogical and social research programs.

Preview of the New Genealogy Guys Learn Site

By now you've already heard about the launch of the new Genealogy Guys Learn subscription educational site at https://genealogyguyslearn.com. In a separate blog post, we have shared the press release and provided links to it on Facebook, Twitter, and in genealogy sites across the Internet. Be sure to listen to our special podcast #368 for full details and more.

I want to share some images of the new website to help pique your interest in our content. Let's start with our main screen.







We're launching with five written self-study courses. Work at your own speed and mark lessons as you complete them so you know how you are progressing. More courses come every month.

We also offer a great Resource area. It includes:

We also have a selection of quick sheets and links to magazines. This area will grow as new printed resources are included in new courses and videos.
  • The Products area offers links to software, hardware, and services, and this list will grow with time.
  • Useful Links is a collection of key online resources mentioned in our materials, and this list will grow as new courses and videos are added.
